net-snmp : step by step installation, (Windows 7 X64, x86) (32bit & 64bit)

Hello,

I'm going to show you how to download and install net-snmp service to enable SNMPv3 for windows 7 64bit because windows operating systems don't support it. With version 3 SNMP has new security options to make package transfer safe.

There is 32 bit versions for all setup files. installation steps are same.

installation : 

 visual C++ 2008 redistributable package (x64) before all you need to install this because as you will see the openssl (if you want to use net-snmp with snmpv3 you are going to need this) installation needs this.

1. Download Page Link : Visual C++ 2008 redistributable installation
   
   When you click the link above you will see this screen check the version. if it is x64 then click download button.
   

   

   Microsoft Download Center web page.

   
   

   

   Select download location. Then double click vcredist_x64.exe and start setup.

   
   

   

   Finish the installation.

2. Win64 OpenSSL v0.9.8zf if you want to use snmpv3 functionality with net-snmp service you will need open ssl for cryptography standarts. But be careful only 0.9.8.zf version is supported by net-snmp.

   to install Open SSL v0.9.8zf, click the link above and on next web site you will have this web page. Then scroll the page down and find the same version I mentioned. This is very important!

   

   Open SSL download page.

   here is the screen shot of version.

   

   Download link at the bottom of page net-snmp only works for this version.

   
   
   
   download Win64OpenSSL-0_9_8zf.exe  by clicking on the link

   

   Select download location.

   
   
   
   Double click installed setup file and start the installation below you can find the installation screens.

   

   Just click next and start installation.

   
   
   

   

   Select "I accept the agreement " then click next.

   
   
   

   

   Leave as default click next.

   
   
   

   

   Leave as default and click next.

   
   
   

   

   If "The windows system directory" is not selected, select it then click next.

   
   
   

   

   Click install.

   If you do not want to donate, don't select anything and click finish.

   
   
   
3. net-snmp-5.5.0.2.x64  When installing net-snmp select encryption support other wise SNMPv3 wont work.

   After 10 seconds your installation starts. then select a download location.

   
   

   

   Click Next.

   
   

   

   Accept the agreement and click next.

   
   

   

   Make the selections same with this.

   
   

   

   Leave this default and click next.

   
   

   

   Click on install.

   
   

   

   Finish the installation.

4. active perl we will need this to configure net-snmp from command line.
   
   Download Page Link : active perl
   
   when you click the download page link you will have following web page you can follow instructions.
   

   

   Click the "Download Now" button.

   
   

   

   Select the latest version for Windows x64.

   
   

   

   Point your download folder.

   
   

   

   Wait 5-10 seconds.

   
   

   

   Click Next.

   
   

   

   Accept the agreement and click Next.

   
   

   

   Leave as default and click Next.

   
   

   

   Leave as default click Next.

   
   

   

   Click Install.

   
   

   

   Finish the installation.

Now you have installed all required things to enable SNMPv3 on your windows based computer. But we need to configure net-snmp and then register it as a service to Windows.
